Set the Table, Please...

I've had beautiful tablescapes on the mind for a while now.  As a kid, I always dreamed of carving a big Thanksgiving turkey on a pristinely set table that included crystal, china and the whole nine yards.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a formal sort of gal, but I do enjoy formality.  There is something so inviting about it.  It makes you want to linger, chat and just enjoy.  However, most of the time my table more resembles this...

But last night as I enjoyed a birthday meal for my Dad, sister and of course, the hubs, I realized it was a great dinner because of the people around the table rather than how neatly I folded the napkins or how well I lint rolled the lampshade.  (Yes, I did do that.)

Whatever Wednesday!

It's Hump Day... and quite frankly I'm pooped!  While the election and holidays have been breathing down our necks, I'm ready to zone out and just look at something pretty.

It's safe to say it won't be cold enough for earmuffs anytime soon, but a girl's ears gotta look good.  I think these would do the trick.

Decision Day 2012

It's time!  Today, a decision must be made and by all accounts it will not be an easy one.  So I'm leaving it up to you to decide.

What color should we paint our outdoor tables?

Last spring, we bought these great Adirondack chairs including a miniature version for the monster.  We painted them a bright blue.  (See a trend developing?!?) 

Anywho, while strolling the aisles of Home Depot late this summer, we spotted the matching side tables for $8 each!  I'm not a fan of matching furniture sets, but for that price who cares.  Which leads to my current dilemma... do we embrace the whole matchy-matchy thing and paint them blue?  Should we stain them?  Should we paint them a totally different color... white, maybe?

Either way, the choice is yours.  Please review all of your options carefully and exercise your freedom to vote... the future of my backyard depends on it.

To Accent Or Not To Accent?

So I've had this project in mind for some time, but was a little scared to tell the hubs about it. Most of the time, he is very supportive of my whims, but every now and then I can push the envelope just a bit too far.  The thing is I have fallen in love with the accent door...

Isn't it just too cute?!?  I had to have one.  Using my best smile & kindest voice, I told him about the idea... and he LOVED it!  Yeah for me and yeah for the accent door!

The problem is I couldn't figure out which door would be best.  Most of the rooms in our house have multiple doors and it isn't really an accent if you have multiple accents... know what I mean? After seeing this post about Jenny's updated entryway, I decided that our back door was the way to go.  It is a stand alone door and would add a great pop of color to the hallway.  

Several paint chips later, I narrowed it down to the blue family.

After making my final selection, I got down to the task at hand.  I gathered my supplies, taped everything off and lightly sanded the door.  Any guesses on the final color?

You guessed it... BLUE, but not any old blue.  This is Behr - Beach Towel.  Needless to say, it's no whimpy accent door.  After one really good nap from the monster & 3 coats of paint, we are left with this... 

and I LOVE it!  It looks great throughout the day and just makes me happy.  Isn't that really what it's all about?
