Shocked… I Think Not!

Surprise, surprise… my rug order has been cancelled. After receiving a shipping notification AND tracking information, I was informed they were just kidding and cancelled the whole shebang. And no they won't be receiving anymore. I really don't understand what I ever did to receive the wrath of the rug gods.

Bye bye original plan...

Hello, square one. So we're putting it to a vote. Here are the current contenders…
Since I'm not tech savvy enough to figure out how to move a poll into the post, I've added one to the column on the top right. Take a look and vote… the future of my baby's happiness depends on it. (Probably not, but Hootie's sanity probably does.)

Cheers,
Jessie

Baby Biz

Thank you so much for all the excitement and congratulations! Hootie & I are thrilled to say the least. Several of you have asked about the baby's and Monster's room & board. We've decided to let them both stay here… hehehe! Monster will actually stay in his room so as not to create too many changes.

As for the baby's room, he or she will be moving into our current guest room/ office. Since we didn't find out with the Monster either, we're reusing the bedding, crib and glider, but you know I had to add a few new touches. Here is the current design board for the little cashew. (That's Hootie's preferred nickname for the baby. I find it a little creepy, but also feel bad that we haven't come up with one yet. Any suggestions?)

I'm happy to report that a few items have already been ordered… i.e. the wire giraffe and rug. And seeing that nothing should ever be too easy, the rug is already on backorder. Seriously. Why do rugs hate me?!?

We're hoping to start making the changes in August so here's a little teaser of my color inspiration.

Cheers,
Jessie

Hello Again!

Remember me? It's Jessie and this is my blog. My apologies, what was supposed to be a mini Spring Break turned into a Spring Sabbatical. Hopefully, you can all relate. (If not, just nod your head yes so I feel better about myself.)

Despite my MIA status, life has been moving full speed ahead so let's catch up a little. This old lady turned 12!
This little monster turned 3!

We've already been to the beach… and wishing we could return soon!

Someone in our family got a solo trip to Hawaii and it wasn't me… or Monster… or Gracie. (I'd rather not talk about it.)

I guess the only other thing that's happened is this…
I figured it would be a little awkward if a baby just appeared on the blog one day so here's your formal announcement. And here's the answers to those questions spinning through your mind right now:
  1. We (being me and said child) are 21 weeks along and yes, I feel good… large, but good.
  2. No, we don't find out the sex. We are told it is definitely either sex A or sex B and we're fine with that answer.
  3. The due date is early November - Hootie's birthday. Apparently stealing family member birthdays must be a thing for our kids.
  4. Nothing has happened with the room yet. I'm sure you will get to hear all about my indecisiveness over the next several months.
  5. The monster is delighted about being a big brother to either a sister, a brother or a flying sword. Not sure I can fulfill all of those requests.
All right, I think we are all caught up for now! Cheers,
Jessie

What's Cookin'?

Several of you have asked, 'Whatever happened to that kitchen remodel?' that I talked about here. Well, it has turned into the world's longest kitchen remodel. (Probably not a true statement, but it feels that way most days… you can thank insurance companies for that.)

Anywho, just to refresh everyone's memories, here is what the kitchen looked like before. The floor had been removed due to water leak.
The small galley kitchen had a cutout that overlooked the breakfast nook.
The pantry on the far left blocked all access to the family room and made the room a little claustrophobic.
View from the living room into the kitchen… I guess I should say 'What view?'
And here we are now… It is still missing the backsplash and hardware, but I would say a vastly different space.
Love the openness to the family room and the additional countertop space.
And I must say I am totally jealous of the beautiful granite.
I'll be sure to take a few more pics once everything is completed (and hopefully everyone gets their junk off my the homeowner's fabulous countertops).

Cheers,
Jessie

Old Stuff, New Treasures

It's time for another round of what I found at the antique mall. If anyone would like more details let me know. I'll only charge a small finder's fee. (Just kidding… unless you really want to pay it!)

Beautiful armoire with incredible detail work. I thought of about a million uses for it… just not in my house. :(
Sweet little settee and already updated. Not normally my cup of tea, but I did want to sit there and have a cup of tea.
Remember when I bought a rock for my built-ins, I was thinking he might need a friend. Love the color and you never know when you'll need to defend yourself.
I'm not promoting anything here other than to say for $100 this sign would be perfect in a bar area or laid back kitchen. I'll have another, please.
Love this bed - the color and shape are fabulous. However, this is a 3/4 bed. Don't know what I'm talking about? Check it out here and see if you will ever be able to find a mattress and sheets!
You know I love me some Asian…. furniture that is. I've been trying to see where this could fit in our casa. As Hootie always says, you can get rid of stuff, but you cannot replace it. (So unfair!)
Since the Frozen theme song has been on repeat in our house, this mirror caught my eye. It has an acrylic frame and reminded me of a Disney movie. So perfect for a little girl's bedroom!
And finally… what post isn't complete without showing you the most bizarre thing I could find? Ceramic ram, anyone? I so wish you could have seen the lady staring at me while I snapped this pic. I'm sure she wanted to know where I was going to place my new found treasure.
Happy shopping!
Cheers,
Jessie

Jewelry + Love = Valentines

Nothing says L-O-V-E like a prezzie! And considering that Hootie asked 'We aren't doing Valentine's presents, are we?!?' I'm thinking that my chances don't look good.

All my lady friends know I'm a sucker for jewelry so here's a little V-Day round up… just in case a certain Hootie can get his act together in time.

I've become a little obsessed with druzy. Love the simplicity of the shape and the pop of gold.

Too cute! These stacking rings add a great touch of color and at $28 I think we could all gift them to ourselves!

In love… no description… MUST have!

Not normally a fan of heart shaped jewelry, but this necklace is sweet and would look awesome layered or on its own.

Chunky and gold, beautiful… are we noticing a gold theme in this round up? Whoops!

This is a bit out of my reach, but diamonds are a girl's best friend!

Happy shopping and happy early VDay (to me… I hope)!

Cheers,
Jessie

New Arrival

After months of debate, delayed timelines and too many options, we are now the proud owners of this bad boy…

It came down to one final make or break decision. The trifecta of rugs!

In the end, I went with my gut and am very happy with the result. I should also mention that my footsies are grateful for the additional warmth. (Raise your hand if you're tired of winter!)
I'm so happy that the search is finally over. If you feel the need to revisit the rug saga, you can check it out here, here and here. Now to find an accent chair. :)

Cheers,
Jessie

Daddy's Little Girls

You know I love me some artwork from Helen Green. I took my own advice for Christmas and had a portrait made of one of my favorite pictures with my Dad.

Millie and I were looking as stylish as always back in the 80s with a street named after moi and a couple of chic mullets.
Helen managed to take away the cheesy factor and captured a sweet memory perfectly…
Dad was thrilled and we are now off the hook for thinking of another killer gift for 11 more months!

Cheers,
Jessie

The Bed that Almost Wasn't

It seems I owe you all a very overdue update on Project Big Boy Bed. The truth is the monster has done very well. His momma and the actual bed haven't faired so well.
Since none of my ideas ever seem to be simple, I thought for sure this one would be a home run! Make a daybed to fit the size of twin mattress… upholster said daybed… add nailhead trim. What could possibly go wrong?

For starters, the size. When the daybed got delivered, they brought everything in and assembled the bed in place. Someone (certainly not moi) didn't think to put the mattress on the actual bed until after they were gone. Rookie mistake!

There was a good 2-3" gap around the entire mattress. Hence the need for a pool noodle to hold it in place. (We are nothing if not ghetto efficient here!)

Anywho, the bed was eventually cut down to the right size, but it did mean that the little monster lived on the floor for about a week. He loved this part. Me - not so much. When the bed was finally brought back, someone (definitely not me this time) forgot to cut down the base that the mattress sits on. So back to the floor the little monster went.

As usual, the third times a charm and the whole thing finally came together about 6 weeks after the initial attempt. Monster and I are both loving the whole thing!

Me: When it looks like this…
Him: When it looks like this…
Just keeping' it real. See, Millie, I do let him play with all his toys at once!

Cheers,
Jessie
